Double success for the Cumann Staire at Society Awards
10/04/08
Last night's Socs Ball saw the awarding of this year's Society Awards of Ollscoil na hÉireann Gaillimh - NUI Galway. The Cumann Staire entered for three award categories and won two, a fantastic achievement! Nóra Ní Dhomhnaill, this year's First Year Repesentative on the Cumann Staire's orgainising coiste won the Best Fresher award marking her out as the first year student who has contributed most to the university's society life. The Cumann Staire also won the Best Website award, from among the ten nominations, for the great work Tonaí Ó Roduibh has put into www.CumannStaire - www.SuperStair.com and www.aistir.com It is hoped that we can again strike gold at the national BICS awards on 17/04/08, where we will represent the university in these categories.
NUI Galway Society Awards Gala Banquet
Meeting with students of the Università di Pisa
02/04/08
A group from the Cumann Staire has returned from a very enjoyable five day visit to Roma, Pisa and Firenze. In Pisa we met with a lovely group of history students from the local university to discuss building a linkage at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Aside from a great tour of their city and a great night out the earlier discussions held in the history department building were very productive and should result in the creation of a student association of history students in Pisa. This will greatly facilitate the development of a linkage built on the Aistir conference and through membership of the ISHA. We look forward to much progress on this over the next year.

Please click through and fill in the relevant information so as to receive a limited number - we swear ;) - of informative emails on news, plans and ideas. We would also love to be sent information on events that should be of interest to the list members and which we will then forward-on if appropriate.
The Cumann Staire to join the ISHA
06/03/08
Following presentations by a visting group representing the International History Students Association at this year's Aistir conference the coiste of the Cumann Staire of Ollscoil na hÉireann Gaillimh (NUI Galway) have agreed to join the organisation. The IHSA currently draws most of its membership from Germany and further east and so this new linkage with a university located on the western edge of Europe is an exciting departure for both groups. Through interaction and adaptation it is hoped that this development will lead to greater success for the IHSA in expanding into coutries with educational systems similar to Ireland's.
A Very Successful Conference
01/03/08
Today saw a fantastic range of interesting papers presented as part of the joint Aistir - IHSA conference. Even with a large number of conference goers partying well into the wee hours of the morning, following the entertaining international history table quiz last night, no one failed to make it to the university for the early start time of 09:15! The official conference dinner promises to be the icing on the cake for a well run day of presentations that went off without a hitch.
