The Cumann Staire (Historic Studies Society) of the National University of Ireland, Galway is proud to host the annual Aistir conference from 28 February to 1 March 2008. Over the past number of years, both the Department of History and the Cumann Staire at NUI, Galway have forged strong links with their counterparts in several other institutions outside Ireland. Aistir aims to bring together students from these various institutions to learn from each other and forge new friendships on both academic and personal levels. It also welcomes history students from other locations across Britain and the continent. The conference provides a unique opportunity for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to present papers in english on a topic of their choice. The touristic city of Galway is perched on the wild westerly edge of Europe. It provides an ideal setting for students to meet together and to present papers on a wide range of topics which will reflect the diversity of our common history.
